Simon Cheung King Sing

Biography

Dr. Simon Cheung King-Sing graduated from City University of Hong Kong with a BSc and a PhD, both in Computer Science. He continued his study but in Politics and Public Administration in University of Hong Kong, where he obtained a MPA with Distinction. He also received Executive Education from Harvard University (Kennedy School of Government), University of Oxford (Said Business School) and University of Hong Kong (School of Business). A Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist and Chartered IT Professional, Dr. Cheung is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Senior Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Dr. Cheung has been working in the IT profession for many years, over 20 years of which with university IT services. He has been the Director of IT in Open University of Hong Kong since he joined the University in 2010. He was the Director of IT Services in SPACE, University of Hong Kong, and the Associate Head of Registry and IT Services in SCE, Hong Kong Baptist University. Prior to these, he worked in Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Council of Social Services. Dr. Cheung has successfully led a number of large-scale university IT projects, including ERP and university administrative systems, business process reengineering projects, campus network infrastructure projects, e-learning platform projects and blended learning projects. Besides professional practices, he was engaged in part-time teaching and course development in Computer Science subjects with Open University of Hong Kong. Dr. Cheung currently has several honorary appointments, namely, Honorary Consultant on e-Learning in Beijing Open University, Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (IT Division), Project Director and Chief Assessor of the Hong Kong ICT Award (Public Service Application Category), and Panel of Experts for the Shenzhen – Hong Kong Innovation Circle. He also serves in editorial board of international journals, and organizing committee (as the conference chair and programme chair) of international conferences on IT in teaching and learning. Dr. Cheung's publications include 9 books and 100+ refereed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers, mainly in two areas – IT in teaching and learning (e-learning, mobile learning, blended learning, and learning platform), and system and software engineering (component-based software engineering, use case driven system design, Petri nets, and formal aspects of computing).
