Sonia Melo

I am from Brazil. I was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro. I´m the youngest of a large family and as I grew up I took on a lot of responsibility.

I graduated from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) with a major in Education. I am happy to be the first person in my family to graduate from university. Today, I have 5 nieces who have also graduated from university.

I used to work in the office of the Brazilian Math Olympiad. I managed the relationship between the organization and the schools which would enter their students in our competitions. The Brazilian Math Olympiad organizes different competitions on state, national and international levels.

I currently work as Senior Analyst managing the relationship between state Universities and the Brazilian Academic Network - RNP. RNP helped to bring the Internet to Brazil and the company continues to work on developing the Internet and providing services for Universities, Hospitals, Institutes of Professional Education and Institutes of Research.

I manage the relationship between the ICT directors from these Universities and the different departments of RNP. I am also a founding member of the RNP Committee of Social Responsibility. We are supporting a Digital Inclusion Institute for young people from disadvantaged communities and provide internet to laboratories in these communities across the nation.
