A Georgetown employee since 1976, Steve worked in the Department of Physiology and the Office of the Dean of Research to support basic research and advanced technology services. He transferred from Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) to UIS in 2000 to co-create the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) division with the Chief Information Officer to increase computational resources at Georgetown.
As ARC Director, Steve implemented Georgetown's first Computational Core Facility. ARC was profiled in the 2006 Educause Center for Applied Research Case Study "A Collaborative IT Support Model for Research at Georgetown University" by Judith A. Pirani (EDUCAUSE) and Donald Z. Spicer (University System of Maryland).
Steve is the IT representative on the GUMC Research Committee, and an Associate with the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. With publications in scientific and trade publications including Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Circulation, Anesthesia, SRA Journal, Georgetown Medical Bulletin, Washingtonian Magazine, and Rolling Stone, he has also coauthored three biographies. He holds a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Maryland, and a Professional Manager's Certificate from Georgetown University.
