Stephen Whiteside

Biography

Stephen Whiteside is the Director Organisational Performance & CIO for the University of Auckland. He is responsible for a portfolio incorporating a strategic program office (at University level), business process management, organisational change management, KPI reporting, risk management, and Information Technology. IT groups reporting to Stephen are IT Services, IT Strategy Policy and Planning, and National eScience Infrastructure (NeSI). Stephen is also a member of the NeSI Advisory Board. Stephen holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the NZ Institute of Directors. In 2005 he chaired the organising committee for EDUCAUSE Australasia, which was held in Auckland. He was previously Chair of the ICT Committee (for NZ University IT Directors), and has served on the CAUDIT Executive. He served for eight years on the Director of the CAUDIT Leadership Institute, which supports leadership training for IT and Library professionals across Australasian Universities. Stephen was the Director of the Institute from 2011-13. Prior to joining the University, Stephen was the CIO for Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB), and a consultant for Coopers & Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers). At CDHB Stephen also spent six months as acting General Manager of Finance. At PWC Stephen consulted on IT strategy, delivery and computer security. He is an alumnus of the Australian Graduate School of Management General Manager Program from the University of New South Wales. Stephen has a Bachelor of Commerce for the University of Canterbury.
