Steve Chan

Biography

Steve Chan is currently a researcher affiliated with the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Prior to this role, Steve served as a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School from 2012-2014, a Fellow at the Institute for Quantitative and Social Science’s Center for Geographic Analysis from 2010-2011, and an Information Sciences & Cyber Research Assistant at Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society from 2008-2009. During this time, he focused on information science, data analysis, and decision science. In furtherance of his data analysis research pursuits, Steve also served as Chief Technology Architect for the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School (2007-2013). He had responsibility for the technical architecture and served as Enterprise Security Compliance Lead for initiatives, such as the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) – a joint endeavor with the Harvard School of Public Health (2008-2011). He also had spacio-temporal analysis responsibilities for major endeavors, such as the “America’s Best Leaders” project – a partnership with U.S. News & World Report – and the National Leadership Index (2007-2010). In addition, he had technical responsibilities with regards to the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum Archive (as part of a Library of Congress project) as well as Campus Voices (a partnership with the Boston Globe and New York Times) (2007-2008) while at the Institute of Politics, John F. Kennedy School of Government (later renamed the Harvard Kennedy School). He also supported other projects, such as at the Leadership Institute at Harvard College (2010-2013), Harvard Center for the Environment and Department of English Chair’s Environment Anthology Project (2008-2016), as well as with the Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Information Technology Department (2008-2009). Steve is an alumnus of Harvard.
