Biography
I am a Full Professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough. I teach our extremely large (i.e., 1800 student) Introduction to Psychology course, and I am Director of our Advanced Learning Technologies Lab (www.altlab.ca). I also offer an Introduction to Psychology course on Coursera.org and, in China, through the Wisdom Tree platform. My research focus in on the creation and assessment of effective educational technologies with special interest in using assessment contexts for learning, and on the development and measurement of core transferable skills like critical thought.
I have been fortunate to win a number of institutional, provincial and national awards for my sustained and significant impact on teaching include the 3M National Teaching Fellowship. The technology I am most associated with is peerScholar, a peer- and self-assessment technology that is now used across Canada and, increasingly, throughout the world.
