Steve Opfer taught print, broadcast, and multimedia journalism at Norfolk State University from 1993 to 2017. Since 2004, he also taught web design (HTML and WordPress) and graphic design (Photoshop and InDesign). In addition, he advised the student newspaper, the Spartan Echo, and took it from a singular print newspaper in 2007 to a convergent multimedia news delivery system of print, television, web and social media that won more than 37 national awards in journalism. In 2018, he transitioned to the NSU Lyman Beecher Brooks Library where he served as their Media Manager, overseeing web design and maintenance, marketing, media operations, and media staff realizing a 21st-century strategic vision. In April 2021, he moved from the library into Communications and Marketing and now serves the university as their social media manager. However, while he is an employee at Norfolk State University, comments made on this account are his own and not those of the University.
