Biography
Some careers follow a path. Mine has followed the arc of computing itself.
I came up during the early days of the internet — literally. In the late 1980s, I helped connect Marquette University to a fledgling network that most people had never heard of, working alongside Chancellor Donna Shalala and the University of Wisconsin system to make it happen. Around the same time, I was contributing to the protocol standards — including RFC 1386 — that still govern how U.S. internet domains communicate globally. The internet wasn’t inevitable then. It was a decision people made, and built, piece by piece.
That foundation shaped everything that followed.
At GE Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare), I served as Chief Technology Architect during one of the most complex infrastructure programs in the healthcare sector’s history: designing and executing a technology integration framework across more than 300 acquired businesses. Each one arrived with its own data environment, network topology, power infrastructure, and operational culture. The work demanded full-stack data center expertise — facility design, power and cooling architecture, storage networks, redundancy planning, disaster recovery — and the organizational discipline to execute transitions without disrupting systems where the stakes were patient care.
What 300 integrations teaches you isn’t on any certification exam. It’s an instinct for how infrastructure actually behaves under pressure, and how the distance between a sound plan and one that gets executed comes down to leadership as much as architecture.
I carried that into the CIO role at Integrated Medical Partners, and I carry it today as Senior Director of Technology at Marquette University, where I’m focused on infrastructure consolidation, research computing strategy, and building technology foundations that serve the institution’s long-term mission.
The questions I spent decades solving in the field — data center consolidation, AI infrastructure demands, hybrid architecture, energy and capacity planning — are now the questions in every boardroom and every headline. I’m glad to be a resource for organizations, journalists, and communities working through them.
