Steven Hopper

Biography

Steven Hopper is the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for UNC-General Administration (UNC-GA), which is the system office for the University of North Carolina. In this role, he oversees the IT strategy and operations for the system office and facilitates collaboration among the CIOs at the individual universities within the system. Steven has worked at UNC-GA since 2003 with increasing levels of leadership and responsibility, primarily focusing on enterprise applications and systems. In 2008, he led the project to create a federated identity through the UNC system, which his team has leveraged to build shared services (such as the UNC Online Exam Proctoring System that won the 2013 WCET Outstanding Work Award) to improve operations and reduce cost for individual UNC institutions.  Steven graduated with honors and highest distinction from UNC-Chapel Hill with B.S. in Computer Science followed by a Masters in Computer Science with a focus in distributed software systems.
