Steve Hughes
Biography
Steve Hughes is an applied mathematician and mathematics educator whose work focuses on translating advanced concepts into accessible, confidence-building learning experiences for college students. He holds a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, where his thesis centered on Green’s Theorem in vector calculus, studying how circulation and flux around a closed curve relate to double integrals over the enclosed region and how this relationship underpins applications in modeling and analysis.
His professional interests lie at the intersection of applied mathematics, quantitative reasoning education, and educational technology, including AI-assisted course design and workflow automation. In both teaching and curriculum work, Hughes uses tools such as Excel, Python, and AI systems to design data-driven assignments, automate assessment, and create visual, real-world–focused materials that support students who may be apprehensive about mathematics.
