Biography

I am Carnegie Mellon University graduate, who was mentored by and performed research with Nobel laureate, Dr. Herbert A. Simon, one of the founders of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in exploring the use of cognitive architectures, production systems,, and physical symbolic systems as a basis for human and machine thinking, and research pertaining to epistemological and philosophical questions in AI, e.g., is it possible for a computer running a program to have a "mind" and "consciousness" similar to humans? Our research resulted in several peer reviewed publications that are listed below.

While I have a philosophical and theoretical background, I am not a pure theorist. I have extensive applied skills developed by working in several industries for over 25 years in designing, developing, and managing advanced technologies to meet challenging information technology requirements in academia, e.g., Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, finance, e.g., UBS/PaineWebber Inc, and government, e.g., Department of Defense and NASA's Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center. I also have 6+ years' teaching experience at the university level in the field of Computer Science and Engineering in South Korea.

I have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, having founded and run several companies (consulting, design, and consumer products). Most recently I lived in Tartu, Estonia for several months as part of the Buildit Accelerator program who invested in one company I was the CEO and Founder of Toona Technologies OÜ, a Pioneers Asia 250 company in 2016. Along with my Co-Founder, we were building a health and wellness product that uses deep breathing exercises to reduce stress, improve health, and enhance well-being.
