Susan Fliss

Biography

Susan Fliss is the Dean of Libraries, Smith College, arriving in 2016.  Susan has a strong background in public and teaching & learning  services and experience in building collaborative relationships among libraries, information technology units, and academic departments. Prior to her arrival at Smith in 2016, Susan was the Associate University Librarian for Research, Teaching and Learning, Harvard Library and the Director and Librarian of the Monroe C. Gutman Library, Harvard Graduate School of Education. Previous positions include Director of Education and Outreach at Dartmouth College Library and a member of the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL) planning team. Prior to her experience at Dartmouth, Susan worked at Mount Holyoke College first as a reference librarian and for the last two years, in academic technology, where she held coordinating responsibilities in the areas of curriculum support, instructional technology, and training. Active in the profession, she has presented at conferences including EDUCAUSE, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the New Media Consortium. She holds a PhD in History from the University of Maine, an MA in history from the University of Ottawa, and an MLS from the State University of New York.
