Biography
As the Service Owner for Academic Technology Support Services (ATSS) I lead a team of instructional designers, academic technologists, and media producers who support instructors in the use of academic technology in all course modalities from in-person to fully online. In collaboration with collegiate and system campus academic technology leaders as well as other central support units, we work to identify and coordinate what services should be offered at the college or system campus level versus those offered centrally for the entire university.
Our team works to understand current and emerging trends in academic technology and proactively provides the support needed by instructors in order to explore and integrate technology into teaching and learning practice and create dynamic, media-rich learning environments for students.
My background is in communications and project management. I have worked at the University of Minnesota for over 30 years. The first 20 years as a media producer/director, producing academic course videos, public service announcements, and documentaries. I successfully produced two public television series; a technology issues program for six years and a health call-in program for ten years. I moved on to manage staff and services for the video production unit and then the communications team. For the last 10 years, I have worked on the ATSS team as an Academic Technologist consulting with faculty and instructors one-on-one to address teaching and learning needs, designing and leading workshops for faculty and staff development, and managing the monthly publication of the Teaching with Technology newsletter available to UMN faculty and staff systemwide. I have a BA in Communications and a Masters degree in Public Affairs.
