Tara Hughes has more than a decade of experience leading technology, service, and institutional transformation in higher education. She currently serves as Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer at California State University Monterey Bay, where she leads technology strategy, digital transformation, governance, and cross-campus partnership in support of student success and institutional priorities. Previously, she served as Chief Information Officer at California State University Maritime Academy and held earlier leadership roles at California State University Channel Islands. Tara is known for building trust, aligning stakeholders, and creating momentum across complex organizations through a leadership style grounded in service excellence and collaboration.
Tara holds a bachelor’s degree in Counseling and a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Leadership from California State University San Bernardino. She is a fellow of the EDUCAUSE Leading Change Institute and the MOR Advanced Leaders Program. She is currently a member of the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors.
