Tom Shifflett

Biography

Thomas (Tom) Shifflett has extensive leadership experience as a manager and director of Information Technology initiatives. He has taken a lead role on many successful system implementations, fostering collaboration between IT and functional stakeholders. Tom has successfully led many full life cycle system implementations utilizing open source, relational databases technologies and business intelligence software. He is adept at communicating with both technical and non-technical staff and users. Tom possess a diverse professional background in both the non-profit and business sectors. Tom Graduated from the George Mason Volgenau School of Engineering with a Masters Degree in Applied Information Technology with an award for Distinguished Academic Achievement. He also holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Tom joined the Mason ITU staff in 2008 as Director of Database Application Services after working as a Technology Coordinator with Fairfax County Public Schools. As a Director at Mason, Tom has demonstrated leadership on many projects that involved collaboration with Mason administrative and academic units. He is responsible for leading 5 direct report managers and 35 staff in the areas of: Banner ERP installation, administration and configuration; Application Integration; IT Governance; Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence; and Web applications development and solutions. He is a leader in the governance process that sets the direction for the Banner ERP system for George Mason.
