Tom Luxon

Biography

Thomas H. Luxon is the Cheheyl Professor and Director of the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL) and Professor of English at Dartmouth. Luxon has published two books on 17th-century English literature and religion, the most recent entitled "Single Imperfection: Milton, Marriage and Firendship." He has also published articles on John Bunyan, John Milton and William Shakespeare. While Luxon presently focuses on early modern literature and puritanism, he also teaches courses on Shakespeare, critical theory and Jewish Studies. He has a particular interest in advanced technology in teaching and research in the humanities and is the general editor of "The John Milton Reading Room," an online study edition of Milton's poetry and selected prose. Luxon is the first director of DCAL which began serving the teaching development needs of Dartmouth's faculty in 2004. Luxon earned his AB from Brown University in 1977 and MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago in 1978 and 1984.
