Thomas Wood
Biography
Tom Wood is an applications developer with the Student Affairs Information Technology department in the University of Connecticut Division of Student Affairs. He helps develop custom software to meet the business needs of the division. Past projects include a work order system for residence hall maintenance, a University readmissions work flow system, and a case management system for students with disabilities. Previously, Tom was a software developer for the Library at the University of Connecticut. While at the Library, he worked on a variety of applications, including an electronics resources management system, a research database discovery system, and a reserves work flow system. He also helped with various systems projects, including a server virtualization infrastructure and a highly available web server architecture. Before joining the staff at the University of Connecticut, Tom worked for 25 years as a software engineer for a variety of large and small companes, including Sun Microsystems, Broadvision, FreeGate, Tut Systems, and HotJobs. Tom has also consulted for companies and institutions, including Cepheid and the Center for Health, Intervention, and Prevention at the University of Connecticut. Tom began his software career at Carnegie-Mellon University where he wrote applications for the Computer Science Department and the Robotics Institute. At the Robotics Institute he helped program computers to inspect manufactured parts, household robots to navigate, and robotic manipulators to interact with the world. Tom is a member of the Association of Computing Machinery, and the Usability Professionals Association.EDUCAUSE Presentations
