Tom Stritikus

Biography

Dr. Tom Stritikus is Dean of the the University of Washington College of Education and serves on advisory boards for Islandwood, Educurious, and the Carnegie Learning Corporation. Dedicated to improving education for all students, his academic work focuses on equity studies, bilingual education policy and practice; and sociocultural examinations of the immigrant student experience. Raised in an immigrant household, Dr. Stritikus began his public school teaching experience with Teach For America in Baltimore. Under his leadership, the College of Education has strengthened partnerships with local schools and educators, most notably around innovative projects within the field of teacher preparation. These research-based endeavors include the UW Accelerated Certification for Teachers (U-ACT), acollaboration with Teach For America, and the newly launched Seattle Teacher Residency program, a partnership with Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Education Association, and the Alliance for Education. Stritikus is currently the Principle Investigator on a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant to develop tools and resources for content focused, competency-based models of teacher education. He recently provided keynote addresses at the Sunnylands Annenberg/NSVF Tech Summit and the 2013 Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).
