Biography

Tonya D. Butler, Esq., LL.M. is an Entertainment Attorney, Assistant Professor, former Record Label Executive, Coordinator of the Music Business Program at the University of Memphis and CEO of her own professional seminar firm: PROFESSOR BUTLER – Lawyer –Lecturer – Liberator! She holds a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law, San Diego, CA and a Master of Laws in Entertainment and Media from Southwestern University School of Law's Donald E. Biederman Entertainment & Media Law Institute, Los Angeles, CA. Ms. Butler has worked in business and legal affairs for music and film companies including Rhino Records, Pioneer Entertainment and MGM Music. Her film contract projects include blockbusters “Legally Blonde II”, “Barbershop” and “Die Another Day”. Her art-direction and marketing credits include projects by CeCe Winans, Oleta Adams, Peter Frampton, and Ray Charles. PROFESSOR BUTLER is a voting member and governor for the Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy; a member of the Memphis and Shelby County Film and Television Commission, on the Board of Directors of the Memphis Rock N Soul Museum and Chairman of the Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission.
