Tracy Smith

Biography

For 35 years, Tracy Smith has worked at the intersection of business needs and technology, successfully improving and streamlining many IT service teams and processes. Currently, he is the Director of Service Support Operations for Information Technology Services at the University of Virginia, where his responsibilities include major and minor Incident Management, Service Desk, Request & Fulfillment, Accounts & Access Management, Endpoint Management as a Service, and the University's Local IT Support Partner Program.

Prior to higher education, Tracy spent 22 years in the rental equipment industry as the Vice President of Information Technology of a rapidly growing nationwide merger and acquisition rental equipment business. There, he consolidated and implemented multiple point of service and ERP systems and related processes.

Tracy holds a Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and in Computer Information Systems from Eastern Mennonite University, and has achieved ITIL® Managing Professional and Strategic Leader certifications. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and five Millennial and Gen Z sons and their families, and volunteering for several non-profit organizations.
