Biography
Vernon Burton is University Distinguished Teacher/Scholar and ProfessorHistory, African American Studies, and Sociology (I-CHASS) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is director of the Institute for Computing in Humanities, Arts, and Social Science, and he is also a senior research scientist at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications where he is the associate director for humanities and social science. Burtons work has appeared in more than a hundred articles in a variety of journals. He is the author or editor of 14 books including the award-winning The Age of Lincoln. Burton was also selected as the nationwide 1999 U.S. Research and Doctoral University Professor of the Year.
