Walt Conway

Biography

Walt is a Manager at 403 Labs applying his 30-years of electronic payments and technology management experience to helping higher education institutions plan, implement, and manage their credit card and e-commerce programs including achieving PCI compliance. Walt spent over 10 years with Visa, and then two years as president of an Internet-based payment processor. Walt conducts PCI training workshops for the Treasury Institute for Higher Education, EDUCAUSE, and NACUBO, and he writes the Treasury Institute’s PCI blog. He was chosen by NACUBO to represent Higher Education at the PCI Security Standards Council. He is a frequent speaker on PCI DSS, security, and ecommerce topics at professional conferences and webinars. Walt co-authored Why Banks View Campuses as High Risk Merchants, an examination of computer security breaches, and 5 Strategies to Achieve PCI Compliance (both published by the Association of Financial Professionals) and Straight Talk about Data Security (in the NACUBO Business Officer). Walt is a Payment Card Industry Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and a Certified Payment card Industry Security Manager (CPISM). In his spare time, Walt writes a weekly PCI column for the online publication StorefrontBacktalk.com exploring PCI business issues from a merchant’s perspective.
