Warren Wilson

Biography

Dr. Warren Wilson is the Chief Information Officer for Black Hills State University and Executive Director of the South Dakota Library Network. In the CIO position he is responsible for all centrally supported technology at his institution. In the Executive Director role he is responsible for the operation of the statewide library automation system which is used by over 70 full member libraries representing a variety of academic, school, public private and special libraries. Warren holds an Ed.D. from the University of South Dakota, an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa, and a B.S. from Monmouth College. He has been a member of the CAUSE Member Liaison, CAUSE Program, Educause Program committees, Educause Midwest Program Committee (and Chair), Educause Publication Advisory, and Educause Editorial Committees (and Chair), and is a Co-Convener of the Statewide Constituent Group. On the Midwest Higher Education Compact, he has served as South Dakota's state representative and on the Technology Committee. Past activities in other groups include: - member of the Northern Tier Networking Consortium’s (NTNC) Executive Committee. - member of the South Dakota Library Network’s Executive Committee. - member of the South Dakota State Library Board (and past President). - member of the Western Telecommunication Cooperative’s Steering Committee. - member of the Governor’s Telecommunications Task Force that selected the first state-wide video network in South Dakota. - I was a member of the South Dakota Bureau of Personnel’s Computer Position Reclassification Committee. - Co-investigator on a $1.1 million NSF new connections grant. - Primary-Investigator on a $.5 million Congressional award for implementation of a new library automation system in South Dakota. - Co-investigator on a $200,000 NSF planning grant for the NTNC. - Received the “Friend of the Library” award from the South Dakota Library Association. - Cause/Educause participation: o Membership Committee (1990 • 1993) o National Program Committee (1997, 2004 and 2009) o Publications Advisory Committee (1999 • 2001) o Editorial Committee (2001 • 2004, Chair - 2004) o Leader/Co-leader of State-wide Systems Constituency Group (2001 • present) o Midwest Regional Program Committee (2006 and 2007, Chair - 2007)
