Zach Loch

Biography

Zach Loch is Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer at East Carolina University, where he leads technology strategy, digital transformation, and innovation for a leading public research university.

A champion for the evolution of the higher education CIO, Zach believes technology leaders must move beyond managing infrastructure and systems to become strategic leaders who help shape the future of their institutions. His work focuses on the intersection of technology, organizational transformation, artificial intelligence, and student success.

An action-oriented and pragmatic leader, Zach brings a practitioner’s perspective to the future of higher education technology, exploring what it means to lead transformation in an era of unprecedented technological change.

Zach has been at ECU since 2007, serving as a software developer, the IT Director of Enterprise Information Systems, and as CIO since December 2020.  Prior to his time at ECU Zach worked as a principle software lead at Lockheed Martin and has broad exposure to a variety of industries including healthcare, insurance, telecom, nonprofits, government services/contracting, and higher education.

 Zach received his Master’s in Business Administration and Bachelor’s in Computer Science from East Carolina University.  Zach is an East Carolina University Chancellor’s Leadership Academy Fellow, and received the Special Recognition Award at Lockheed Martin for Innovation and Performance.
